Graham Chalcroft, Eye to the Sky
Artfully was engaged by the State Valuation Service to undertake valuation assessments of the artworks and Qld State Government assets: ‘Eye to the Sky’ by artist Graham Chalcroft, Magnetic Island; ‘The Drovers’ by artist John Underwood, Brisbane; and several works by Elefantus metalwork studio, Cairns. The valuation work involved: site visits and condition assessments (day and evening); liaison with the artists, fabricators, relevant arts professionals and Arts Queensland; artwork appraisals including placemaking value, community cultural significance and artistic merit, artwork valuations and statements of valuation methodology. Artwork appraisals involve not only assessment of artistic merit but also assessment of placemaking and community cultural value. Artfully will undertake stakeholder consultation, including direct liaison with artists where required, ensuring observance of moral rights and professional best practice standards.
